It all started when I arrived at the gym early one morning to prepare for our opening. As I was setting up, I noticed a small, wet spot on the floor near one of the weightlifting stations. At first, I thought it was just a spill from one of the athletes the night before. But as I got closer, I realized that it was something much more, well, “intimate.”
My first instinct was to ignore it and deal with it later, but that didn’t seem right. After all, I’m a stickler for cleanliness, and I couldn’t stand the thought of someone slipping on that spot and injuring themselves. So, I grabbed some paper towels and cleaned it up as best as I could.
But then, I realized that this wasn’t an isolated incident. Over the next few days, I noticed more wet spots appearing in different areas of the gym. It seemed that we had a leak, or worse, a bodily fluid that was being left behind by one of our members after using the facilities.
This was a problem that needed to be addressed immediately, both for the health and safety of our members and to maintain the cleanliness and professionalism of our facility. I decided to take matters into my own hands and launched an investigation to find the source of the problem.
I started by speaking with our custodial staff, who confirmed that they had also noticed the wet spots but didn’t know where they were coming from. I then spoke with our members, asking if they had seen anything unusual or if they knew anyone who might be causing the problem. But no one had any information.
Finally, I decided to set up a hidden camera in the gym to see if I could catch the person responsible. After a few days of monitoring, I finally caught the culprit: a young man who was using the gym’s restroom to engage in some “extracurricular” activities.
I confronted him with the evidence, and he admitted to his actions, claiming that he didn’t know he was causing a problem. I explained the health and safety risks associated with his actions and asked him to clean up the mess he had made. He agreed and has since been more respectful of the gym’s facilities.
This experience has taught me the importance of being proactive in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our members. It’s also made me appreciate the often thankless work that our custodial staff does to keep our gym running smoothly. And while it was an unexpected and somewhat unpleasant experience, I’m proud of the way I handled it and the positive outcome it had for our facility.
